The Luxembourg 'Marque Nationale' quality guarantee
The Luxembourg ‘Marque Nationale’ quality guarantee The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a gastronomic paradise with a local produce rich in variety, colour and taste. The produce is characterised by a wealth of expertise and tradition, guaranteed by the specially adapted protection and valorisation processes in place. The ‘Marque Nationale’ quality guarantee was introduced in 1932. It currently applies to the following products: butter, brandy, honey, pork, smoked cured meats, wine, sparkling wine and ‘crémant’ wine. The production, processing and marketing procedures for all of these products are subject to various state-controlled specifications.
The ‘Marque Nationale’ label guarantees a superior quality and a production process which respects the environment and animal welfare. In order to better meet customer requirements, other labels have been introduced over the years. These include the Chamber of Agriculture’s ‘Produit du Terroir - Lëtzebuerger Rëndfleesch’ label which guarantees that beef is of Luxembourg origin and the ‘HAFF’ label, introduced by an agricultural association and applied to veal, lamb, pork and poultry products produced in accordance with strict criteria, with a view to protecting the environment.
The ‘Véi vum Séi’ and ‘Téi vum Séi’ labels are reserved solely for farmers operating in the Upper Sûre National Park, while organic produce bears the labels ‘Demeter’ and ‘Bio-label’. Finally, there is also the ‘Made in Luxembourg’ label introduced by the Chamber of Commerce and the Guild Chamber to valorise the traditional production and processing techniques applied in the manufacture of, amongst other things, dairy products, beer, cooked pork meats, food pastes, vinegar, mustard, …
