Hiking with the railway

With 5,000 km of waymarked footpaths and walks, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has one of the world’s densest networks of walks.

Follow the 40 “CFL” numbered and waymarked hiking trails from station to station. After each stage, you can return to your starting point by train.

Hiking from station to station: cross the entire country in stages along 460 km of waymarked paths, without having to worry about your luggage. Your hotel will take it to your next destination.

The National Tourist Office has selected the loveliest routes through the Ardennes, along the Moselle, through the Mullerthal region, Luxembourg’s Little Switzerland, the Land of the Red Soil. Explore these regions with their hiking maps and descriptions. Make the most of the luggage-free hiking packages on offer at several Luxembourg hotels.

Information at www.hiking-in-luxembourg.co.uk

The guide “71 routes on foot and by bicycle from station to station” suggests hikes and rides following with maps on a scale of 1:20,000 or 1:50,000, with symbols indicating the position of stations, picnic areas, swimming pools and tourist sites. The routes are suggested on the basis of a brief description of the historical and cultural curiosities to be explored. Information is provided on the differences in altitude of the routes. The guide is on sale at the shop in the National Tourist Office, at Luxembourg central station and at bookshops and newspaper kiosks (€ 19).You can take your dog with you on your walks, too. Your four-legged friend will be taken along free of charge.
