Population : 300 inhabitants Altitude : 99 meters Esch-sur-Sūre is a small village set in mountains and skirted by the river Sūre. Site among the most outstanding in the country.
The village is dominated by the scale of its ruined manor-house (927) and the cliffs which plunge down to the river. Consisting
of plateauxs, narrow valleys with wooded slopes and the lake of the
Upper-Sūre dam, built in the 1960s to meet the countrys drinking water
requirements, the Natural Park area is an right place for leisure
activities and aquatic pursuits, learning about an ecosystem or
for research, wildlife and nature tourism is becoming
increasingly important here.During the Summer months, interesting nature park festivals are held such as the Kino um Séi (cinema by the lake) festival in Insenborn and the regional farmers market Maart a Musik (market and music) in Eschdorf. The House of the Park in the former cloth factory in Esch-sur-Sūre contains the reception and information centre about the activities in the region and is the first point of sale for buying typical regional products. The following communes form the Upper-Sūre Natural Park: Boulaide, Ell, Esch-sur-Sūre, Heiderscheid, Commune of the Lake of the Upper-Sūre, Neunhausen and Winseler. |
